The I Am Breath Method
Your body has a story.
Every session begins by learning how to listen.
Why this approach feels different

Most massage begins with the question, “Where does it hurt?” That's an important place to start—but it isn't always where the answer ends.
The place you feel pain, tension, or restriction gives us valuable information. But your body works as an interconnected whole. How you move, work, exercise, rest, breathe, or compensate in one area can influence what you experience somewhere else.
That's why I begin with curiosity rather than assumptions. I listen to your story, consider what your body has been adapting to, and use movement, observation, and intentional touch to explore the relationships that may be contributing to what you're feeling.
The point of discomfort gives us a place to begin. Discovery helps us decide where to look next.
How the IAB Method works
Discovery continues throughout your session. It isn't something that happens only before the massage begins.
1. We Begin With Discovery
Your story, goals, health history, daily activities, and what you're experiencing give us a place to begin. When helpful, movement and simple assessment can provide additional information about how your body is moving, adapting, or compensating.
Discovery doesn't have to make your session complicated. If your goal is simply to relax, release tension, and enjoy a good massage, that's valuable information too.
2. We Begin Slowly
When the hands-on work begins, I don't immediately reach for deep pressure.
I begin with intentional touch, slowly sinking into the area I'm working with and giving your body time to become comfortable with my hands. This initial contact allows me to begin feeling the tissues beneath my hands while also giving you time to settle into the experience.
The first touch isn't preparation for the work. It's part of the work.
3. Touch Becomes Communication
As I work, I'm paying attention to how the tissues respond beneath my hands—and you're paying attention to what you feel from within.
That creates an ongoing conversation. Your breathing, comfort, movement, feedback, and responses to touch all help guide what happens next.
Taking time at the beginning also allows comfort and trust to develop before deeper work is introduced.
Rather than imposing a technique on your body, the work develops in response to what we discover together.
4. Myofascial Work Creates the Foundation
Myofascial work is foundational to the way I approach the body. After slowly engaging an area, I may progress into deeper palpation, fascial stretching and release as appropriate, paying attention to tension, restriction, movement, and tissue response along the way.
From that foundation, I may incorporate other approaches such as trigger point work, acupressure, Shiatsu, craniosacral sequences, muscle testing, and traditional massage techniques, depending on your goals and what the session reveals.
These aren't separate treatments that you need to choose beforehand. They're tools available within one personalized session.
5. We Follow Relationships
Where you feel something matters, but Discovery doesn't automatically stop there.
As the session progresses, I may explore how the area you're experiencing relates to surrounding or seemingly separate areas of the body. Movement, habitual patterns, compensation, and tissue restriction can give us additional questions to investigate.
The purpose isn't to chase a predetermined answer. It's to remain curious about the relationships your body presents.
6. We Reassess & Respond
The IAB Method isn't a predetermined sequence that I perform from beginning to end.
I continue paying attention throughout the session. What changes? What doesn't? Does movement feel different? Does an area become more comfortable? Does working somewhere else change what you originally felt?
What we learn may change where I work, the technique I use, the pressure I apply, or what we explore next.

One Method, Multiple Tools
Hands-on work may be the foundation of your session, but sometimes what we discover creates opportunities to support your body beyond the massage table.

Depending on your goals and what is relevant to your session, I may incorporate breath awareness, simple movement guidance, body awareness, education, and practical self-care strategies to help you better understand what you're experiencing and what you can do between appointments.
This doesn't mean every session comes with exercises, homework, or a treatment plan. Sometimes what your body needs that day is simply skilled hands-on care and time to relax.
When education or self-care can be useful, my goal is to keep it practical, understandable, and relevant to your everyday life—not overwhelm you with information.
These aren't separate services. They're additional tools available when they can meaningfully support your goals.
A Partnership With Your Body

The IAB Method isn't about making you an expert in anatomy. It's about helping you become more familiar with your own body.
Throughout a session, I may share what I'm noticing and invite you to notice what you're feeling. A movement that feels easier. An area that feels connected to another. A place where you tend to hold tension. A change in your breathing. Or simply the difference between how your body felt when we began and how it feels now.
These observations aren't about telling you what is “wrong” with your body. They're opportunities to become more curious about the signals your body gives you and the patterns you begin to recognize for yourself.
Over time, that awareness can help you communicate your needs more clearly, make more informed choices about your care, and develop greater confidence in responding to what your body is telling you.
The goal is not dependence on the practitioner. It's a stronger partnership with your own body.
Learning about the I Am Breath approach is just the beginning.
The next step is understanding how your first appointment is designed and what you can expect before, during, and after your session.
